Black Ops Gulf War to Introduce Full-Fledged Open World Campaign

This year’s Call of Duty, likely titled Black Ops Gulf War, is gearing up to become the sixth installment in the Black Ops series. If rumors hold true, this game marks Treyarch’s first COD entry in four years (after Black Ops Cold War)- the longest development period in the series’ history. Now, further leaks from industry insiders strongly suggest that Gulf War will introduce a full-fledged open-world campaign—another first for the franchise!

Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson was the first to break the story, noting that players have previously glimpsed elements of an open-world campaign in Modern Warfare 3 through its ‘Open World Missions’. However, according to reliable sources, Gulf War’s campaign is entirely original, built from scratch rather than recycling assets from previous titles.

Drawing comparisons to the likes of Far Cry, Gulf War promises similar navigation options, granting players access to various vehicles for traversing the expansive map, and a convenient fast travel system. In addition to these open-world missions, Insider Gaming’s sources confirm the inclusion of linear missions featuring familiar faces from the Black Ops universe, like Russell Adler from Cold War, who joins your team on select missions.

Furthermore, there’s speculation that future entries in the series might lean more towards open-world campaigns rather than linear missions. This signals a significant shift from the traditional Call of Duty storytelling, potentially revolutionizing the franchise starting with Black Ops Gulf War – for better or worse! Keep in mind, though, that all this information is based on leaks and rumors, so it’s wise to take it with a grain of salt.

Now, to our readers: What are your thoughts on this change? Are you optimistic about the future of Call of Duty campaigns, or do you view this shift as unnecessary? Share your opinions in the comments below.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War is currently rumored for release in October 2024.
