Black Ops 6 Install Size Clarification: Not as Massive as Initially Feared
The gaming community was recently sent into a frenzy when the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 appeared to require an astonishing 300 GB of storage space, as indicated on the game’s Xbox Store pre-order page. Fans were understandably concerned about the idea of dedicating such a significant portion of their hard drives to a single game.
However, Activision has now stepped in to clarify the situation, putting players’ minds at ease. In an X (formerly Twitter) post from the official Call of Duty Updates account (@CODUpdates), the publisher explained that the “estimated file size” displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages “does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.”

The tweet further clarified that the previously shown install size included full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone, and all relevant content packs, as well as all localized languages combined. This comprehensive bundle does not— obviously—represent a typical player’s install experience, as most users will only require one, maybe two, of these components.

Correction: The estimated file size currently displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.
The sizes as shown include the full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone…
Fortunately, players will have the option to download Black Ops 6 as a standalone title at launch, without the need to download any other Call of Duty games or language packs. And, as always, once you’ve completed the campaign, you can uninstall the related files to free up some space!
This news comes as a great relief to the community, as a 300 GB install size would have been an unprecedented and daunting prospect — even for a COD title.
As the release date for Black Ops 6 approaches, Activision has promised to provide a more accurate estimate of the game’s file size. While the actual size is likely to be substantial, it is expected to be far more manageable than the initially feared 300 GB.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to launch on October 25, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
With its gripping campaign, revolutionary multiplayer featuring the new Omnimovement system, and the return of the classic round-based Zombies mode (and a lot more), Black Ops 6 promises to finally restore our faith in the franchise!
